Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center Proudly Presents Gus Stern, M.D.

In keeping with our ongoing commitment to providing an expert surgical team in the field of ophthalmology, Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center is proud to welcome Augustus “Gus” Stern, M.D., to our team of dedicated ophthalmic specialists. Dr. Gus Stern specializes in the treatment of Glaucoma and Corneal disease and performs advanced Cataract, Glaucoma, Oculoplastic and Refractive surgery procedures.

A native of Maryland, Dr. Stern completed his undergraduate work at John Hopkins University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, graduating with honors. Dr. Stern completed his Ophthalmology Residency and Fellowship Training at the prestigious Tulane University School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident and received the Clinical Research Award in 2007. Following his residency, Dr. Stern completed an anterior segment fellowship in cornea and glaucoma at Tulane.

Dr. Stern is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He lives in the Bellaire area with his wife who is a pediatric dermatologist, Dr. Kirra Brandon, and his young daughter, Maebelle.

Katy, TX, May 18, 2009 – Southwest Texas’ leading eye care provider, Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center, has broken ground on the Katy areas first “green” medical facility, located at the corner of Westgreen and Kingsland. The new Westgreen Medical Center office complex will house the Mann Eye Institute and Laser Center’s comprehensive eye care clinic, state-of-the-art LASIK center and Medicare approved ambulatory surgery center (ASC) for the treatment of Cataracts and Glaucoma.

The Westgreen Medical Complex is LEED Registered and being built according to the internationally recognized LEED certification system based on the metrics that matter most to the future of our community - energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and the care of resources and sensitivity to their impact.

The LEED green building rating system -- developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington D.C.-based, nonprofit coalition of building industry leaders -- is designed to promote design and construction practices that increase reduce the negative environmental impacts of buildings and improving occupant health and well-being.
