Non-Texas Refractive Surgeons

With tens of thousands of individuals undergoing a form of refractive surgery such as LASIK, interest in the different procedures is at an all-time high. Many people are unsure of what is done during a LASIK vision correction surgery. While the entire procedure is very complex and should only be done by a surgeon who you trust and have readily researched, there are two main components to the procedure. The first step to a LASIK procedure is the creation of the corneal flap. The surgeon will use an oscillating blade called a microkeratome or a special IntraLase femtosecond laser. IntraLase has increased in popularity since it received FDA approval due to patients desiring a refractive surgery that is blade-free or all-laser. After the creation of the corneal flap, the refractive surgeon will use a cool excimer laser to ablate the cornea so that light is more properly refracted, which allows light to be properly focused on the retina. It is important to undergo an extensive evaluation by a skilled ophthalmologist to understand which procedure works the best for you.

Many patients who undergo a refractive surgery procedure are encouraged to seek out other cosmetic enhancements to rejuvenate their appearance. Many patients visit Austin cosmetic dentists to learn more about the different approaches to enhancing their smiles.
